INSECTS at SIMOSE—Contemporary Expressions of Insects

INSECTS is a group exhibition bringing together artists whose work features insect motifs, which has been held regularly since 2019 at SASAI FINE ARTS in Ginza. Each participating artists combines their skillful techniques and expressive talents with their deep interest and affection for insects in their artistic practices. This exhibition surveys the range of contemporary expression in insect art, by 14 artists working with a variety of materials and techniques. More than 30 works including new works by 14 artists are on display, featuring SATO Seiwashigeyoshi, a sculptor who plays a central role in the INSECTS group, alongside UCHIDA Lina, OKUMURA Hana, KOJIMA Hisanori, KOMATSU Takahide, SAITO Noriyuki, SUWA Atsushi, TOYAMA Makoto, HARUTA Yukihiko, HIGUCHI Akihiro, FUKUI Keiki, FUKUDA Toru, HORI Takaharu, and MITSUTA Haruo.
The latter sections of this exhibition introduce around 20 artworks featuring expressions of insects by Emile Gallé and his contemporaries, whose works occupy an important position in the collection of our museum. This serendipitous encounter with the insect artworks by contemporary artists is sure to bring out new charms of the Simose Collection. Please enjoy a familiar and profound world of insect art this summer.
